Articles for (Jun/06/2014)
Hi all,
i have to present for a biomechanics journal club meet next Friday (Jun/06/2014) and figured that i might as well double-dip the presentation.
Currently i am leaning forward to present this article:
Takano (Futai) microfld nanofld 2012 [pocket-sized cell culture]
which showcased a pocket-sized, stand-alone device for cell culture. No need for external gas supply (just a water jacket with sodium bicarbonate and sodium carbonate), no need for large flow pump. Only a 37C hot plate is required and it’s ready to go on a microscope. i like the system design a lot as well as the fabrication intricacies involved. Furthermore, the stand alone feature is pretty awesome. Tejas and Greg may find this interesting as it involves chip-based cell-culture.
i am throwing these two articles out there as well, some of you might be interested:
Xu (Heilshorn) LoC 2014 [gel-based chemotaxis]
which showcased a shear-free gradient system to direct neuron growth. UV writing was used to crosslink PEG-DA gel to compartmentalize the system (this may interest Tom, for me its the shear-freeness). i have seen a few works by the Heilshorn group and they are pleasant to follow.
Erkal (Spence) LoC 2014 [reusable electrodes]
which showcased a 3D-printed holder that allows easy integration of electrodes in fluidic system. Karl may find this interesting.
