3D Printing for Milli/Microfluidics
I’ve been using a Makerbot 2 for the last week or so, trying to see if we can use the same PDMS contact lithography techniques that we are all familiar with. In short, yes, but there is plenty of work to be done to make it a robust process for microfluidics. Makerbot Printer The…
Production from 2.28.08
Production this week yielded mixed results. We ran eight wafers through four different RTP temperatures with/without the susceptor. We wanted to test our theory that temperature non-uniformity inside the chamber was causing the morphology change across the wafer. This proved to not be the case! Wafers that were treated with and without susceptor showed the…
30 nm Ar sputt. temp. series
As a follow up to my 15 nm post-Si deposition Ar sputter experiment, I fabricated a set of six wafers with 30 nm Si films this week: three with the Ar sputter process and three without. I annealed these at 1000, 1050 and 1100 C with a ramp rate of 100 C/s for 60 s….
Intermediate state morphology investigation
ByJoe QiIn my previous post of Morphology evolution in pnc-Si membrane (2), see https://trace-bmps.org/datablog/?p=14769&preview=true , I showed that membranes (30SiN-25Si-30SiN) annealed at 700C show us an intermediate morphology in the pnc-Si membrane. I did some further investigation in the past week on this intermediate morphology. Compared with the previous test which membrane was annealed at 700C…
Dependence of flow rate on pore radius
I think some of us have been confusing each other in our discussions of the dependence of flow rate on pore radius. Jim thinks in terms of a single pore, and I agree that there is an r^4 dependence. Therefore, if you double the pore radius, flow would increase 16X with everything else being equal….
Compressive Structured Illumination Microscopy (CS-SIM)
I would like to introduce Compressive Structured Illumination Microscope (CS-SIM), which will be built in the McGrath’s Lab. CS-SIM is a novel microscopy framework, which was proposed by me. It is dedicated to alleviate some SIM problems such as motion artifacts as well as photobleaching, and also it might present further resolution improvement thanks to…

This is all great data. Have we made any progress in mapping the flow rate to the pore size distribution and porosity of the membranes?
