Visualizing increase in cut-off sharpness of carbonized alumina coated pnc-Si

In my last post, I introduced the concept of pore size dependent carbon growth on alumina coated membranes. Here, I have plotted a Gaussian fit of the tail of the pore size distribution of carbonized membranes (with and without an alumina coating). I am only showing the tail of the distribution to highlight the sharpness of the cut-off. If we plot the size versus absolute density of pores, the difference in sharpness between carbon on a bare membrane (top plot) and  carbon on an alumina membrane (bottom plot) is not immediately apparent.

However, if we plot the size versus the percent of total pore population, the increase in sharpness with carbonization on an alumina surface becomes clear.

Here is a plot without the histograms.

Carbonization on an alumina coated surface could be quite useful if the increase in cut-off sharpness can be shown in membranes of various size distributions.
